A Kitchen That Makes a Difference

Chef In Newly Refurbished St Mary's Hospice Kitchen

We’re delighted to have supported the refurbishment of the kitchen at St Mary’s Hospice – an improvement that is already making a meaningful difference behind the scenes.

Thanks to this project, the hospice now benefits from a modernised, open-plan kitchen with dedicated areas for food preparation, baking and dishwashing. These upgrades are helping staff work more efficiently to provide nourishing meals for patients, as well as freshly prepared food and cakes for visitors enjoying The Orangery Café.

The refurbishment also includes improved accessibility, with new accessible toilets and a redesigned front-of-house layout – creating a more welcoming, comfortable environment for everyone who visits.

This important development was made possible through the combined support of The David Snowdon Trust, Ulverston Town Council, The Frieda Scott Trust and The Roselands Trust. Together, these contributions have helped transform a vital space at the heart of the hospice.

The newly refurbished kitchen and Orangery Café & Gift Shop were officially opened by the High Sheriff of Cumbria, Dr Geoff Jolliffe, marking a proud moment for all involved. The enhancements come at an important time, helping the hospice meet growing demand while continuing to provide high-quality care and a warm welcome to the local community.
